Welcome to the team, Lane
It wasn’t the job per se that drew Lane Norris to apply for our right-of-way crew member position — it was the idea of joining a cooperative that sparked his interest.
“It was the highly respected organization that Noble REMC is within the community,” Norris said. “Being given the opportunity to begin a career here is one thing you just can’t turn down.”
He said the right-of-way crew was a great way to get his foot in the door and use his previous experience to his benefit. Norris had contact with the electric industry in his previous position at a fiber company operating a directional drill, where he was taught the importance of locating utility lines above and below.
It’s also helpful that Norris spent a few years working on a farm where operating heavy equipment and power tools was a daily occurrence.
That knowledge and his enthusiasm to learn more about the careers available at the cooperative make him a great addition to the Noble REMC team. And he’s enjoyed the diversity of the job, which he started back in September.
“I’ve enjoyed getting to learn and do things you would not experience in other fields, such as being up in the bucket and exploring new parts of the area we work in that I’ve never seen before,” Norris said. “I’ve also enjoyed the family-like environment, getting to know everyone and creating a bond with those I work with.”
In his spare time, Norris said he loves to be outside, whether that’s hunting or riding ATV trails with his wife, Rebekah. He’s also a member of a local fire department, where he enjoys training and knowing he’s helping his community.
