The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour is taken each year in mid-June to provide young adults with the opportunity to travel to our nation's capital. Youth tour participants will experience firsthand how our government operates, learn about the complexities of the electric utility industry, discover the unique characteristics of cooperative business enterprise, as well as meet and work with hundreds of peers from throughout the United States. The trip also gives students the opportunity to see our nation’s rich history, visit famous national monuments and government buildings.
The Youth Tour will begin the first day and night in Indianapolis. The following day, the bus departs for Washington, D.C., from the headquarters of Indiana's Electric Cooperatives, and will return to the same location, seven days later. All expenses from Indianapolis (meals, lodging and scheduled events) will be paid for by the sponsoring electric cooperative (Noble REMC). Travel to and from Indianapolis and any other incidental expenses incurred by the participant will be their responsibility.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
To be eligible for the youth tour, the applicants must be a Noble REMC member, a junior in high school and enroll for their senior year. Applicants shall also have demonstrated participation and leadership in their school and community through organizations, committees and other activities.
Selection of a youth tour candidate will be based on the candidate's application listing his/her school and community participation. Applicants will also be required to write a short essay (no more than two pages, double-spaced).
The topic of the essay will be the importance of community involvement. Noble REMC takes an active role in the communities we serve, so we ask, “Why do you think it’s important for companies and individuals to be involved in their community?”
