Noble REMC Operation Round Up reaches milestone

The Noble REMC member-participation philanthropic fund Operation Round Up® has surpassed one-quarter million dollars in benevolent giving in its first six years.

Two-hundred and seven (207) grants totaling $258,418 have been awarded to many non-profit organizations and schools in Noble REMC's service territory. The grant applications are reviewed by a volunteer grant review board which meets quarterly. These grants have been distributed locally to a variety of organizations helping thousands of people in the REMC service territory.

Over 85-percent of Noble REMC members (customers) participate in the optional program, whereby their monthly electric bill is "rounded up" to the next whole dollar. Those funds collectively are transferred to the Noble REMC Operation Round Up® Trust Fund at the Noble County Community Foundation. On average, a customer donates $6 a year to the trust. Donations are tax deductible.

Non-profit community based organizations in Noble, DeKalb and adjoining counties, where the electric cooperative serves, are eligible to apply. Applications are available at the Noble REMC office or can be downloaded from our website (see bottom of this page for details).

The Noble REMC Operation Round Up® Trust Fund is currently accepting grant applications until April 10 for the next grant cycle.

Operation Round Up®, started by a rural electric cooperative in South Carolina 20 years ago, is a nationally recognized charitable giving program unique to many of the nations leading rural electric cooperatives. Together these cooperative's members have given millions of dollars for causes in rural communities across the country.

Noble Rural Electric Membership Cooperative, based in Albion, serves nearly 10,000 customers in Noble, DeKalb, and adjoining counties in northeast Indiana.
