About Noble REMC
Noble Rural Electric Membership Cooperative—commonly known as Noble REMC—A Touchstone Energy Cooperative, has provided electric energy and other services to a rural constituency for over 70 years. Noble REMC is a WorkEthic Certification Employer. The company was founded in 1936 in Albion, Indiana, where its headquarters is today. Although located in Albion, the cooperative considers its entire service territory as its community. Noble REMC is a leader in local economic and community development. Many of our employees and directors have been an integral part of many community organizations, garnering numerous awards for it. Most noteworthy is the Noble REMC Operation Round Up® Trust Fund, funded by consumers allowing us to round up their bill and using the combined contributions to support community organizations and projects. See the Operation Round Up® web page for details. Founded as a not-for-profit cooperatively owned company, the REMC is governed by a 12-person elected board of directors made up of consumers (customers) of the REMC. Directors are elected on a rotating basis at our annual meeting. The REMC owns Noble Technologies, Inc., which is a partner in Cooperative’s Energy, LLC, d/b/a Crossroads Energy—a metered propane service with North Central Co-op. NTI also provides the highly touted Noble REMC long distance service program to thousands of customers. Patronage capital refunds are one of the benefits of being a cooperative member. When the REMC is in a financial position to do so—as it has for many years, the member receives a refund check representing the prorated amount between the actual cost of service and the margin for a given year. It is like having one share of the company. That sets us apart from investor-owned electric companies and municipal electric companies operated by towns or cities. As a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, we are among over 600 other rural electric cooperatives who’ve formed this organization and have pledged to maintain high expectations for customers service, integrity, accountability, innovation and community service. We work closely with the following affiliated organizations:
Communicating with REMC members is a priority. The main vehicle for that is the widely read Electric Consumer monthly paper printed by our statewide association. Noble REMC utilizes a minimum of four center pages for communicating news of interest to the local consumer. These pages may also be found in the Electric Consumer section of this website. Many other items of general interest appear in the other pages. This web site is now an evolving source of information and is updated frequently. Bill stuffers, brochures and new releases are other vehicles for communicating important information. |
